Crossing to the dark side
Monday, 5th June 2006 by GadgetgirlYes fellow mowabians, I have converted to Mac! Please before you scream in rage and uproar, please allow me to share my thoughts with you on why I converted.
Firstly, apple finally tolerates intel. Not saying this is a good or bad thing, but it does reduce one less barrier for me in terms of not crossing over.
Secondly, the MacBook Pro 15.4 inch notebook spec I purchased is very well put together. I struggled and agonised and finally features and asthetics made me purchase it.
Still getting used to its features I must say but thanks to Sir Flakey, I am well on my way to better using the machine. I currently have parallels running on it which has also eased the pain in some respects.
Stay tuned folks for any further developments….

What does parallels actually do? Is it windows virtualisation?

I have to admit I’m definitely among the mac-curious these days — but eventhough I know nothing about it all, something tells me to wait a year or so until they’ve got the Intel stuff sorted out.

Ok ..
Parallels (http://www.parallels.com) is virtualisation but it’s virtualisation via a hypervisor - basically is translates to the hardware cpu rather than emulating it. Think Virtual PC on PC.
I’ll have a MacBook in a couple of weeks. I’ll post some sort of opinion then =). (although I am writing this on a Mac mini core duo that is installing Solaris 10 in parallels in the back =) )
