Almost French

Sunday, 2nd October 2005 by Bookworm

A long weekend has given me the opportunity to finish reading a few books have been building up on my bedroom floor. The weather has been fantastic and I like nothing better than sitting on the balcony, reading a book with a glass of wine nearby.

Almost French was definitely a good read. A light and funny book that doesn’t require a lot of thinking and contemplation. The book’s author is an Australian, who after a chance meeting in Romania met the love of her life - a Frenchman named Frederic. It outlines her journey to adjusting and settling in France, learning their customs and some times silly miscommunications due to the different cultures.

France to her was originally the wonderful romantic city but it turned out to be a city which initially was unwelcoming and cold. After seven years of living in France, she has finally found a happy medium and made France her home. Having contemplated living in another country lately, this book has made me realise that you never fully get to know a place until you live and breathe in it. Perceptions are some times very deceiving.
